The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a devastating blow to societies and businesses around the world. But life still goes on. However for underprivileged people and daily wage earners lock down means an abrupt pause in livelihood. To make their livelihood better Food for All Chennai has organized a fundraising event “UTHAVUM KUYILGAL’--- online singing contest.
In an effort to bring art to the community and to help reach people during pandemic Team Food for All Chennai come up with this idea. Uthavum Kuyilgal bloomed on first week of July; 2020.The online contest had four major rounds prelims, Quarter finals, Semi-finals and the grand final round. The prelim starts with freestyle songs followed by Ilyaraja/AR Rahman theme based songs for the quarter finals, entertainment songs for the semi finals and motivational songs for the Grand finale round.
Uthavum Kuyilgal, kick-started with 150 plus registration (Registration fee-100) the raised money is used as food packets/rice bags and other necessitous to the deserving families. Team Food for All Chennai was delighted towards the overwhelming response from the people. Uthavum Kuyilgal started with 57 contestants and qualified 10 Kuyilgal were selected for the final round. The final round was judged Music Director Mr. Simon and Mr.Ganesh Chandrasekhar.
Conducting an event online is challenging but those challenges always will enhance for the better outcome. All the four rounds were interesting and engaging for the team. The initial two rounds of the contest went well ordered but the semi finals were tough to judge. But, the judgement for the final round was much convoluted among the final judges.
The finals result were announced on 3rd of August,2020 by Music Director Mr. Simon and Mr.Ganesh Chandrasekhar have given legitimate score. Our duo music director was very much impressed by all the finalists’ performance. After analyzing on each finalist’s performance they selected Melvin as the Title Winner and Revathi as the Runner-up of UTHAVUM KUYILGAL 2020.Uthavum Kuyilgal also has a special category award Favorite singer of the series-qualified by social media votes, won by Disha.
